Nami-Nami

As anyone who has been reading this blog for a while will know, my tastebuds have discovered the joy that is Eastern-European cuisine. It’s not the stodgy, bland mush that people sometimes think.
Imagine my joy when discovering a link, via my comments, to Nami-Nami… the web-home of an “Estonian Foodie”. Nami-Nami! (Pille even kindly puts [...]

What I’ve Been Doing…

Last night we watched the Polish film “PREGI” (there’s a tail thing on the “e” so it’s pronounced “prengi” (translated as “The Welts”). A birthday gift from Kasia’s brothers (thanks guys!), I was interested to see what Polish cinema had to offer. I just hadn’t a chance to watch it until last night. So we [...]

Polish Invasion

Woo hoo… the Polish invasion continues!
Having been a regular of Deli Polonia for a while now, I thought it was only fair that I check out the competition.
The other day, I was at my dentist in Gorgie, so thought I’d drop in past “Polski Smak” the “mini Polish deli” on Gorgie Road. Unfortunately at 9.10 [...]

Quick Polish Update

Yes, I’m becoming a stat-tart, but since I wrote about Deli Polinia a few weeks ago, my search strings have been tied up in knots with queries about the place and what they sell.

I’m happy to point people [...]

Edinburgh and Great Food: No Longer Poles Apart

Ok… that was a pathetic pun, i’m sorry.
Attention Katherine and Svetlana, and anyone else with penchant for Eastern European cuisine:
Lucyna Ellis (can you guess that’s a married name!?) is set to open Deli Polonia on Leith Walk. A colleague of mine who passes it on the bus assures me that the windows are whitewashed and [...]

Pierogi Pierogi Pierogi… redux.

Well, I did it.
Last night I finally got round to my first attempt at making Pierogi, and I have to say they were not at all bad! The pictures won’t do them justice, as I used my camera phone in poor light. I also forgot to photograph the blueberry ones [...]
